1. Lecture + Notes…  Hard News vs. Soft News
2. Assignment:  Choose ONE of your article drafts.  Revise the lead, revise sentences to create stronger sentences (refer to PowerPoint for ideas), and get more information from the person you interviewed (if necessary).
3. HW:  Revised article is due on Tuesday. Shoot for a 300-word article!

Agenda:

1. PowerPoint + Notes: Elements of News – Take notes in your notebook (provided in class today)
2. Mercury News: Select 5 articles from the newspaper that you find interesting. Clip the article, glue it in your notebook, then write a 1-2 sentence summary of the article AND identify the elements of news in each article.
3. Crash Interviews: Interview 3 of your classmates, take notes, then write a draft of an article about each person you interviewed.

HW: Draft the articles from the information you collected during the interview process today.  Due on Friday.

First Day of School – Tuesday, Aug 28

Today’s Agenda:

2. Introduction to the Class – PowerPoint (Intro to Journalism 1)
3. Ice Breaker – Pipe Cleaner Activity
4. Multiple Intelligences Survey + Information Card (get a copy from Mrs. Arbizu)

Notes: Today we were able to complete nearly the entire agenda. All students were able to share their introductory pipe cleaner sculptures and nearly all students completed the surveys and turned in their information cards. Students who were not able to complete their cards should do so in class tomorrow and make sure to submit it to Mrs. Arbizu as soon as possible.
